So there I was...

I stood in my kitchen, staring at the disorder that surrounded me. I had just begun a complicated remodel to help out my grandfather. My aunt had just died from unknown causes, she was 35. Half numb, half in morning, I don't know what caused me to strike out. I had been fretting over the fact that today was the first day I had been blessed with a kitchen in the first place for three months.

I walked over to the new ebony pearl silestone countertops I had chosen. There were all these rather plain tiles sitting around. Grabbing one of the top of the stack, I dusted it off and wandered to the kitchen. Armed with a volley of paintbrushes stolen from the random buckets, I grabbed up a plate and used it as a palet. Moving around the house, I collected the different blue, white and pearl tones that were the interior of the house. Stepping back to the tile, I started to paint.

Other than the fact that I am obsessed with the magnificent creatures and even teach classes on them, I don't know why I chose a unicorn. My recent spiritual awakenings (and accepting the fact that unicorn worship is allowed) is probably what inspired me to do the moon and stars glistening about the unicorn's head. The unicorn has often been compared to the moon....you should look it up, its interesting.

The unicorn is male. I don't know why. I could tell you many reasons I suppose since I have studied it enough, but that was what my mind chose. Perhaps he is my Animus. Either way, his name is Abulus. He's actually more white than this, but in the night sky's pallet, this is how he appears in my mind's eye. He has been my Friend and Guide since I can remember.

I painted him quickly, though it was a long time for me back then. It was a touching piece and sometimes, remembering the hope he represented, the fact that someday, everything would be easier, it pleased me. It made me happy. I hope it does the same for you, let us all find our unicorns....

Year Completed: 2006
Time it Took: Indoor House Acrylic took 120 Minutes with House painting supplies and brushes randomly absconded with to do the piece.
Medium: Acrylic
Original Size: 12x12 Inches
Source/Model: None
Notes: I wanted a good Unicorn tile, well, that was one way to do it.
