Lunari aka "Unicornhole Cave Unicorn": Unicorns with softly glowing coats and the appearance of a moon in unicorn shape. They can suppress this glow. The Lunari are quite rare and they are closely related to Lunicorns, the unicorns that reside on the moon closest to the planet Abathia. These Lunari are very magically skilled and they are also rather hardy, with a natural disease and poison resistance, especially the ones with a diet heavy in the strange things that grow underground.
Some Lunari have a Full Moon divination talent, When they are using this on the full moon, to see the future and be an oracle, they shed white powder called Moondust. This moondust can be collected and lasts until the next full moon. It can be used to augment divination spells. The Lunari in unicornhole cave can decide whether or not they want their skin and coat to shift as much. They can suppress the shedding of their glittering moondust unless they are a Moonspeaker.
Magic: Shapeshift bat or feathered wings or a cross depending on how they feel that help them maneuver through the huge, underground cavern and its strange magical terrain. Can see color, distinguish shapes and see normally in complete and magical darkness.
History: A single herd grew up topside, a second herd grew up in Unicornhole Cave and are the Unicornhole cave unicorns.
Lunari the Unicornhole Cave Unicorns live in complex social units usually in Unicornhole caves although one lone herd survived topside. They are never hindered by darkness spells and can always see well. They in fact have super vision and should they go outside, they would see like eagles. As unicorns, they are at home in the light, but as cave unicorns, they are equally at home in the dark. Their hooves are crystal so they can thrive in their crystaline home. Glowing crystals grow all over their home and fill the caverns with beautiful light. They unicorns graze on glowing mushrooms carefully tended by dwarves. They get more light from long beams of sunlight that penetrate the cavern's top. This also affords tasty foods from the trees and rare, delicious plants the dwarves cultivate. They speak the underdark language, dwarven, unicorn, sylvan and many fairies and gnomes reside with the unicorns of Unicornhole. Should a unicornhole unicorn go outside, it also gains power from moonlight, starlight and sunlight allowing them to live without ever having to sleep. While underground, they do sleep sometimes.

Age: appears physically 9, but his real age is unknown
Height: 22 hands
Color: Black base with iridescent hues. His most notable characteristics are the glistening stars that shine along his body and flanks. Very distinctly non-Arabo-Friesian, the markings are iridescent, gleaming points of diamond and sapphire along his ebony coat. A wash of deep indigo and violet mingle with his black coat, making him look as though the very milky way itself is manifested on his athletic flanks. His eyes are large and intelligent. They are silver and their markings match those found in the moon, large areas of deep silver streaked with alabaster and grey. His mane and tail have a gunmetal metallic silver sheen to them.
Markings: Glittering stars. He is a unicorn, but his horn is missing.

Personality: Ebony Star possesses the "golden character" of the old proven Friesian blood lines, yet he has a certain wanderlust about him that makes him wish to often be running just to feel himself “fly” above the ground. Noble and concerned with his body and movements, the stallion has always cultivated the image of an upstanding member of the herd. Ebony Star loves the wind, stars and moon, truly a night-born stallion.
Though he doesn't really stand out in the island, he is still not considered normal. He doesn't know his age (coming from a place only of daytime) and he's not very talkative. He's solitary simply because he's doesn't relate to most of the island's perky inhabitants.
Tariel has come to learn that he was once a unicorn, but his horn is missing.
History: He arrived on the island through a fluke magical spell. He came from a place that was populated by horses that thrived in the day. He was a star-unicorn, but a different one. He was one who was more of a dark star, a night creature, a magical moon unicorn. Though looked down upon, he never really realized how different he was until a spell cast on him to fully make him a day horse spun out of control. It was someone stealing his horn! Instead of changing him fully into a day horse, he was teleported away. He arrived before Abathia who was just as surprised to see him as he was to see her. He had amnesia.
In attendance to Tariel, he immediately learned that he was in an enchanted island. Tariel took him around the island and through their bond she managed to coerce him to stay and not seek out of the star horses. Though she will not tell him, she has a bad feeling and through her equine empathy felt the death of a great people and she's afraid of the possiblity that it is his people. She will not talk to him about it, but perhaps someday he will realize the sadness she sees could be directed toward him. She is unsure though and would never want to put him through the horror of thinking his own people are dead if she is wrong. Since he "felt" nothing, she cannot be sure that it is his people, but she is a diety of horses and her soul sings to them...and they sing to her.
Recently, however, he has revealed his true power. Dreams. Through the assistance of an enchanted winged wolf, he has begun to learn that he has the power of controlling his dreams. Tariel, also skilled at lucid dreaming, has begun to explore with him, both under the guidance of Dreamwalker the Guardian pegacorna2.deviantart.com/art/… have begun to learn to control and travel in their dreams.
Tariel has come to learn that the stallion once had a horn. She cannot figure out where it has gone though!

For Ebony Star, I chose the Arabo-Friesian to give a more streamlined and not-so “drafty” appearance (one of the rules was no drafts, but some feathering allowed). The Arabo-Friesian Sport Horse Association North America website is here: www.afshana.com/ and has lots of interesting information. Yay, anyway, I luffs that breed. Really, the picture is more "Arab" than Arabo-Friesian, but ah well, I did that on purpose because it looks like the person I am drawing for probably likes the lighter breeds (she specifically said no drafts, and I don't consider Friesians drafts but blah blah blah, hehe).
My boyfriend recommended a lion’s mane on the horse’s body. I saw this i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb… while poking around online for some ideas. Sigh. I feel sorry for the horses. I know my mare certainly wouldn't let a lion ride her.

She studies biology and has a love of the ocean and wild animals. Horses, wolves, foxes, ponies, deer, dogs, cats, panthers, lions, fish, tigers and other creatures are some of the animals she draws. Stephanie Small is an artist located in California but she has spent time all over Oregon. Nature is an influential inspiration to Stephanie, as she seeks to augment and reflect what she sees around her in a variety of mediums. Inspired by medieval art, the fantasy and science fiction genre and more, Stephanie has developed a style of mythical realism. Stephanie uses a variety of styles and mixed mediums in her artwork. She regularly uses digital mediums such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Painter and more. She favors traditional mediums such as colored pencil, chalk, pen, ink, pencil, acrylic, watercolor. She has been known to adapt fabric, recycled art, recycled purses to create art that is both useful and stylish.
Stephanie has been interviewed and featured in several magazines and websites. Her artwork has been published several times in books and magazines. She is best known for artwork featured in publications such as the Page, the Twisted Vine, the Unicorn and others. Her artwork will be featured on the cover of several upcoming books and publications.
She often donates teaching, administrative assistance, research and artwork to many local non-profits. She has taught in-person and online classes on food preservation, writing, gardening, spirituality, unicorns, art and more. She has worked for (and with) the local government to initiate youth projects, senior events and business support.
Stephanie loves unicorns and the horses she grew up with. It is clear in her art. She also loves mermaids. She even has a set of mermaid fins she can swim in. Stephanie Small finds inspiration in the animals of the ocean such as whales, orcas, narwhals and dolphins.
